Hi! I’m Bonnie Kerrigan Snyder. I founded Kerrigan College Planning to help middle and upper-middle class students and families optimize their educational opportunities. My goal is to help families get better value from their investment in higher education; I do this by minimizing the cost and maximizing the return on a college degree.

If there’s one thing that I think sets me apart from other college planners, it’s that I’m not into the admissions frenzy. I’m about commonsense planning and making smart, informed, and appropriate choices. I also believe college planning should be fun and enjoyable—not frenzied or terrifying. It’s about the student’s growing self-awareness and about personal discovery.

In terms of credentials, I am an Honors graduate of Harvard with a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Doctorate degree in Higher Education. I have attended Harvard’s Summer Institute on College Admissions, where I studied alongside representatives from Princeton University, the University of Michigan, Dartmouth, and Harvard and I currently serve on the Board of Directors of Planet Tuition. I have a particular interest and emphasis on career planning, and am a Certified Global Career Development Facilitator with the National Career Development Association.

Experience-wise, I’m an educator who has worked as a college admissions officer, high school guidance counselor, college professor and college career counselor. I’ve taught career counseling courses to counseling students at the graduate level, worked as an online EssayEdge application editor, trained in test preparation with the Princeton Review, and served as an Ivy League alumni interviewer. I speak to public and private schools, statewide counseling associations and other organizations about higher education and the college planning process and I have been a featured presenter with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. My work has been featured by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, CBS Money Watch, Yahoo! Finance, Parents, Ladies Home Journal, and other media outlets.

I’m also a busy and avid writer. My first college planning book, The New College Reality: A Career-Focused Approach to Making College Work For You, is an Amazon bestseller and my latest book, The Unemployed College Graduate’s Survival Guide, has just hit the shelves.

Dr. Snyder is available for media appearances and public speaking events to discuss The New College RealityThe Unemployed College Graduate’s Survival Guide, college planning, college costs, career planning for young people, and the college tuition bubble.
